This might not be Neo Soul, but there a cool gig on Thursday the 26th at Cafe Cordiale for all LA HOD'ers w/Herman Matthews playing a jam called, Old Skool Soul. I saw his Old Skool Funk and it was awesome. They played all the classics. I'm sure the Soul gig will be similar.

I've joined the first two tracks together (cooledit is amazing!), cos as you'll know funkydrummer, they segue together on the CD. The drumming is fantastic on these tracks.
The second one is from plantation lullabies. I don't know if you know that CD, you probably do. I think it's all or mostly drum programming, yet it's one of the funkiest things I've ever heard. The clavi, meshell's bass playing, the piano, and the drums are incredible in the break at 1.39 to 2.26, that's a section I never get bored of! Enjoy. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

That track from Plantation Lullabies is absolutely fantastic! I've gotta get this one right away. Neo-soul is currently my favorite stuff to listen to and play. So many great, great musicians within the genre. I'm really digging this Out of the Blue song, too. I've been listening to it like crazy. Such a great groove. Thanks a bunch man!

Hey Rudy check out itunes.com and look for a band called "Lettuce". Straight stupid funkd. Its like James Brown meets Tower of Power. The drummer is Adam Deitch(spelling might not be right) he is currently touring with Scofield.OH MY GOODNESS!!!!If funk were a milkshake you wouldnt be able to pull this stuff through the straw!!! They do a cover of an old Herbie Hancock tune that Mike Clark played on and this kid gives much respect to Mike and then just kicks it right in the you know what new school style. Check them out!! There is also a couple of live cuts on this one too!! "Keep It In The Pocket". PT>

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">DAMN right! Lettuce is killer stuff! That "Outta Here" album is always finding its way to my CD player. Adam Deitch is nasty on the whole album. Serious stuff here, check it out if you haven't heard it yet. The guitarist on there, Eric Krasno, is from the band Soulive, and they're quite nasty themselves. Their drummer, Alan Evans, is a great, great player. Their second album, "Doin' Something" has a few tracks with a horn section that Fred Wesley arranged and played in. So you know it's got that funky, JB's groove goin' on.

Soulive is very definitely the serious joint! Adam has certainly been studying Jabo Starks, and Clyde Stubblefield. I would say that he gets an A+ on his homework for studying the old school cats. Shoot, without those cats none of us would cutting chops and time. "Keep It In The Pocket" PT.
